TI Futility Exercises: Communication
Here’s Hoping that Disorganization, Refusal to Listen, and Unverified Claims Lead to Victory
I had an interesting conversation recently with another TI. He was only a few years into the TI life. He was younger than I, less experienced than I, wasn’t interested in those complicated technical papers I write. Despite this he interrupted me in the conversation to correct my verified facts with unverified speculation.
His posts display positive vibes, but his words on the call exposed him to be quite angry at specific areas of the country and their TIs. He didn’t get the reaction he was hoping for apparently, and while delivering this news to me he was failing my needs in the same way. Hypocrisy- it’s a thing. I attempted to point out the trap of negativity, and that the TIs are not really at fault, but it was as if I never said anything at all- this person was comletely unable to hear or absorb my words. It was unsettling.
No one wants to waste their life. I am currently doing that. I want to stop it, and I’m going to try again. I have a lot to offer, and I can pursue inventions, philosophy, engineering etc for the world instead of the TIs. This is what I want. I want to be effective.
I’m not blaming the TIs. It’s not that they won’t listen it’s that they can’t. Nevertheless I am speaking into the void, squandering my hours.
I may operate as a lone wolf. Any operations TIs make would have to be this way as organization is impossible.
This fellow, he didn’t want answers- he wanted confirmation, and when the facts didn’t support his desired view he became resistant. I know I got nowhere with him, especially considering he didnt want anything other than a yes man. This undereducated greenhorn wanted me to yes him.
Where is the path forward there? If we can’t be teachable then we are lost already.
I’m not certain what it takes to earn respect in the TI community, other than being harmless and having the program give it’s blessing. This is what happens: we are guided toward who to like, away from others and we never question it. The program rewards harmlesness and punishes effectiveness. We know we have our thoughts and emotions altered but never take the time to question where. Until we recognize our lateral mobility here, and learn to recognize the signs of the program leading us astray- it is over for us.
The harmless TIs and their work is popular, the harmful stuff is made to be unpopular. Emotions need to be dropped at the door, cold hard analysis is required if we don’t want to be stooges.
I doubt I can extract myself completely from this poinless effort, but I would if I could.
